If you sell well-monitoring equipment, SPE ATCE is worth examining for the technical conversations it can support. Before booking a booth, you need to know whether those conversations fit your product. This guide explains the event, its 2026 program, and the display decisions that matter for your first exhibit.
ATCE 2026 takes place in Houston
The SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition is scheduled for October 21–23, 2026, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. These are the conference dates; your installation schedule needs separate planning. Official event website

The Society of Petroleum Engineers organizes ATCE around exploration and production, often shortened to E&P. It combines a technical conference with an exhibition. The audience includes practicing professionals and researchers, while the event also welcomes students and people early in their careers. About ATCE, official event website
That mix matters if your equipment needs an engineer to understand its value before anyone requests a quote. You can plan for a useful technical discussion without assuming the person across the counter controls a purchasing budget. Treat a conversation about a field trial differently from a student asking how the sensor works.
The current exhibition schedule is narrower than the full conference program:
| Date in 2026 | Exhibition hours, Houston local time |
|---|---|
| Wednesday, October 21 | 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Thursday, October 22 | 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. |
| Friday, October 23 | 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. |
Friday technical sessions continue after the exhibition closes. Arrange a booth demonstration within exhibition hours, even if your contact stays for the afternoon program. Recheck the schedule before confirming appointments. Official schedule
Where your monitoring equipment fits the program
The published 2026 program includes Production Testing and Surveillance and Production Optimization. The former addresses how wells are monitored and interpreted; the latter includes automation and digital methods for improving production. These are concrete reasons to investigate ATCE for a monitoring product. They are not evidence that a particular operator plans to purchase it. 2026 technical program

Use those subjects to test your message. If your device detects a change in well conditions, can your demonstration explain what the operator would do next? Show the reading alongside the decision it supports. A screen full of measurements makes a weaker introduction when visitors cannot see why a change matters.
The equipment itself does not establish your fit. A general-purpose sensor with no clear oilfield application would need a much stronger explanation than a product already supported by relevant field evidence. If that explanation is still being developed, attending first may help you learn which questions your future exhibit must answer.
SPE promotes the exhibition to companies supplying products and services for exploration and production. However, its exhibit agreement leaves product qualification to SPE. If your application is unusual, describe it to the sales team before treating a space booking as assured. Exhibit at ATCE, 2026 exhibit agreement
What the ATCE exhibitor list can tell you
The 2026 official list includes Baker Hughes, SLB and Echometer Company, alongside university exhibitors such as Colorado School of Mines. That gives you a more specific picture of the exhibition than a broad “energy industry” label. These are current listings, not confirmation of who will staff each booth. 2026 exhibitor list and floor plan

Review the companies closest to your application before choosing your message. If a visitor already knows those products, what would you need to explain about yours? Use the list to prepare that comparison. Do not count other exhibitors as prospective buyers simply because they work in oil and gas.
A technical audience changes what belongs in the booth
ATCE's conference is part of the reason to exhibit, not simply activity elsewhere in the building. The organizer says exhibitors can access the conference program. Use that opportunity to hear the questions surrounding your application, while keeping someone able to explain the equipment at the booth. Exhibitor information

For a first appearance, build the demonstration around one well-monitoring problem. A compact sample paired with a readable signal trace may explain more than a large equipment display. Keep the test conditions visible, and distinguish measured results from a simulation. This is a suggested presentation approach, not a promise that SPE has approved your demonstration.
Leave room for a visitor to stand beside the person running it. ATCE's exhibit regulations require demonstrations and their audience to remain within the contracted space. They also place electrical connections with the official contractor. Put the viewing position and power needs into the layout before deciding how large the screen should be. 2026 exhibit regulations
Two details to resolve before committing to the display
Booth space is not a complete display package: flooring and electricity need separate arrangements. Check the current service orders against what your demonstration actually uses. Exhibitor resources

If you intend to bring a vehicle, ask show management to confirm the submission date now. The resources page lists October 1 for heavy-equipment or vehicle notification, but September 21 for the vehicle inspection checklist. Do not assume the later date covers both. A smaller equipment sample may be easier to plan while you establish what the show permits. Vehicle and equipment information
Questions before your first ATCE exhibit
Does booking a booth give us a technical paper presentation?
Do not plan on it. ATCE has a separate process for selected paper presenters, with manuscript and presentation instructions in its Author Kit. Arrange your booth demonstration on its own merits; discuss any conference speaking opportunity with the technical-program team. ATCE Author Kit
Can we invite an operator contact just to see the demonstration?
The exhibitor guest-invite program offers one-day exhibition access for customers and prospects. These invitations are not staff badges or full-conference passes. Check the selected day with your contact before sending an invitation so the visit matches the demonstration you have planned. Guest-invite terms
Make the decision around a real conversation
Before reserving space, send your proposed demonstration to an existing operator contact and ask whether it addresses a question their team is working on. A relevant program and a contact willing to discuss that problem give you a firmer reason to exhibit. If you have neither, use an initial visit to test the fit before commissioning a booth.
